Auto Parts and Accessories · December 1, 2020

Having a hard time keeping a blur-free windshield? Perhaps you’ve squandered your money on wiper blades or extravagant rain repellents only to end up getting the same fuzzy view. If so, it goes without saying that the dilemma is nothing but the wiper arm itself.

Though removing wiper arms seems like a daunting task for most vehicles, you’re rather fortunate to own a Ford f150. Regardless of the year of your purchase, f150s have their own niche when it comes to wiper mechanism.

As for how to remove windshield wiper arm of ford f150, it’s pretty much a low hanging fruit. Thanks to Ford’s easy to remove wiper setup, you can save the tip for yourself instead of sparing it on a mechanic.

Steps to Remove Windshield Wiper Arm of Ford f150

Trust us. You won’t need that rich toolbox of yours to get this plain sailing job done. Follow these five simple yet detailed steps in order to get a hassle-free removal in the blink of an eye.

How to Remove Windshield Wiper Arm Ford f150

Lift the Arm

Gently lift the wiper arm up and off the windshield. Make sure that you hold it in a vertically erect position with the vehicle.

Find its Hinge

Locate the hinge near where the wiper arm is attached to the vehicle through a pivoting mechanism.

Pry the Tab

You’re likely to notice a small tab or latch on the side of the hinge. Now pry the tab out with a flathead screwdriver. If the tab not found, proceed to step 5.

Pull it Out

Now that the tab is out, grasp it with one hand and pull the wiper arm to release it free. You may have to wiggle the arm up and down for a few seconds before it finally slides off the post.

If No Tab’s Found

Chances are the tab may be missing out. If so, pry the retaining clip off the wiper arm with your screwdriver. Then hold the clip aside, and the arm should come off quite easily as you pull it.

When You Need to Remove the Windshield Wiper Arm

Even after you’ve replaced the wiper blades lately, your windshield wiper may leave unwiped spots all over the glass. Perhaps, it’s a sign that the wiper needs an immediate replacement, and therefore a removal. Here’s a bunch of scenarios when you’ll need to remove the windshield wiper arm.

When You Need to Remove the Windshield Wiper Arm

Unbearable Noise

If the wiper makes constant squealing sounds, the hinge might have gone through corrosion. Such an incident is common if you haven’t used the wipers for a prolonged period. Oiling the hinge can be an instantaneous solution, but the corrosion and binding will return, forcing you to remove the arm.

Worn Out Arm

Due to the extensive use of the wiper, the metal of the arm can be prone to decay since it will have to make consistent contact with the glass. Chances are you’ll notice a detachment of the arm at certain connecting points as well.

Skipping

When the frame of the wiper gets somehow bent, it will start to skip making contact with certain spots on the windshield. As a result, there will be inconsistent contact, resulting in unwiped spots and an overall blurry windshield.

Bottom Line

A fully functional wiper arm plays as important a role in your safe commuting as the steering wheel does. No matter how many years of experience you have in hand, foggy windshields and wet streets will always remain a fatal combination.

The risks involved in driving with an obscure windshield also applies if you reach down to the repair shop during spring showers only to replace the wiper arm. We hope you got rid of such risks as we disclosed how to remove the windshield wiper arm of the ford f150.
